4. Description: Lighting systems. This project is originated by and funded by the energy saving budget as part of the University Carbon Management plan.

The works are in the upper basement level of two which comprised book racking storage, study spaces, staff area and circulation areas.

The existing lighting is old T12 single fluorescent tube batten type fittings some of which have UV filters installed others presumably have been lost through the course of time.
The existing lighting does not utilise any automatic controls with lighting manually switched in groups via pull cords and light switches.

The project involves replacement of lighting throughout all areas identified on the layout drawing with new LED lighting c/w automatic controls.

The works are on Level 2, Level 1 was Phase 1 completed last summer which can be used as a reference as similar to the new works although the ceiling structure is generally flat on Level 1 where there are downstand beams on Level 2 which make the ceiling arrangement more complicated.

The light fittings on Level 2 completed are slightly different to those proposed on Level 1 which have a diffuser which has a wider light distribution.
